Marianne Willoughby or imaginethetruth is a fanfiction writer who was posting stories on LiveJournal and Dreamwidth until 2012. She had a fanfiction.net account under a different name. As of 2011 Marianne wrote primarily for Due South and other C6D fandoms such as Slings & Arrows, Canadian Actor RPF, Wilby Wonderful, and Hard Core Logo. She has also dabbled in other fandoms, such as Californication, the Vampire Diaries, and various Dickens categories. She is an irrevocable Fraser/RayK shipper, and considers herself to be one of the most die-hard C6D and Californication fans ever.

Writing Style

From fellow blogger and friend Adelle: "She has a very intricate style of writing, which is what makes her work so special. Everything of Marianne's that you read (whether it's long, short, first person, third person, etc.) is beautifully developed and very detailed. Her attention to detail makes her writing very realistic. She's young, but this youthfulness shows in her writing and influences it in all the right ways. Marianne really knows her characters, and her love for them is one of the things that make her work so special."

Old internet pal Streamy noted: "Can I just say her (Marianne's) writing is beautiful? It's just so raw and dsafljksadj real."

Marianne is an excellent snapshot writer; she'll take a tiny and developed idea and morph it into a story sometimes under 100 words. She provides vivid descriptions without being excessive, and always sets up a beautiful coda be it happy or sad. She also has a great love for writing letter style fanfiction from one character to another.

"How better to get inside a character's head than through a letter straight from the source? Sometimes a story with no dialogue that is just told from a character's heart is far more powerful than one with speaking parts." - M.W.

Notable Work

Due South

  • From Chicago With Love – Written in April of 2010. It focuses on the idea of Fraser's loneliness and the fact that he is actually a lot more loved than he thinks. It's very sweet and subtle.
  • At A Loss For Words – A Fraser/RayK snippet, written in April 2010. A letter from Ray to Fraser. Her Ray voice in perfect, and this letter is something sublime.
  • Rewind – Fraser/RayK, written in March 2010. A snapshot of Fraser and Ray's first meeting. Very intricate, very powerful.
  • Snow Falling In Chicago – Fraser/RayK, written in August 2010. One of Marianne's longer fics, this is a beautifully written fic about winter, Chicago, love, and epiphanies.

Slings & Arrows

  • Love's Not Time's Fool – Ellen/Geoffrey, written in April 2010. Sloan gives Geoffrey some romantic advice. Set between season's 2 and 3, this story captures the fantastic personalities of the characters to the core. It's a fic with everything.
  • Doubt – Written in February 2010. A fic told in the third person from Ellen's point of view. Ellen reflects on her feelings for Geoffrey. Very touching.
  • The Play May Please - Ellen/Geoffrey, written for the 2010 Midsummer Seekrit Santa challenge. TPMP is a detailed look at Ellen and Geoffrey's first meeting and what it meant for the future.

Californication

  • Remember Me – Lew/Janie, written in August 2010. A short but gut-wrenching short fic focusing on the consummation of Lew Ashby and Janie Jones' breakup.
  • It's Lonely Out In Space – Hank/Mia, written in January 2011. A heartbreaking coda to the end of season 3.
