Controversy
In early summer 1991, a fan, Sharon Wells, wrote of her anger over statements Formaini included in updates to The Beauty and the Beast Companion about explicit fanworks. See An Open Letter to all Readers of "Adult" fanzines.
Another fan, The Beauty and the Beast Companion's cover artist, publicly disowned her association with Formaini regarding remarks he'd made to fans, see Krinard's remarks.
