List of Star Wars Early Songvids

Even though Star Wars fandom was robust, there are very few early songvids.

As a movie, original Star Wars footage was initially limited. It wasn't until 1984 that the show aired on television for the first time.

Another reason: Lucasfilm's stronghold on fandom culture may have prevented fanvids from being widely circulated.

Also, in the absence of slash fandom community (Lucasfilm prohibiting all same sex fanfic, even G rated), may have limited interest and audience.

There is also limited record of these vids; while Star Wars fanvids were circulated at the Mediawest*Con convention in Michigan, the convention failed to track entries and contest winners, leaving information lost.

In the Star Wars letterzine Southern Enclave #49, one fan lamented:

Is anyone doing SW songtapes? Video editing and recording is a labor of love I know, but I sure would like to see some SW videos sometime. "Rebel Son" was the only one I saw at MW. Are there others out there? Does anyone besides Minky have the equipment to even do it?

For more information about this fan activity, see VCR Vidding.

Below is a limited list of known VCR era fanvids. Some vids were exclusively edited on VCRs, a few were edited digitally but using VCR era source
