Reactions and Reviews

Once more, someone has found a new way to account for Kirk and Spock's first time. Imagine that Requiem for Methuselah was near the end of the 5 year mission and that Kirk is desperate to keep Spock on the ship, rather than see him resign and return to Vulcan. Then think about what it would be like if when Spock helped Kirk to "forget", he was erasing memories of much more than Rayna. What I'm omitting here is all that takes place between these two bookend scenes. Ms. Heaton fills in the gaps quite nicely. A fine poem by Robin Hood closes the story. [1]

This short story has a simple premise, and manages to show a significant time-span with a few short scenes--and shows it with feeling. Passion, agonizing--most enjoyable.

After viewing the tape of Spock's death, Kirk and Sarek have arranged to meet on Vulcan in ten days with Spock's body and McCoy. Sarek had given Kirk a message-disk he'd found, from Spock. We learn through this message-disk where their relationship stood when Spock died; and in a flashback we're shown their first time. I like this scenario, where Spock was going to leave at the end of the mission and Kirk is appalled--he has to seduce Spock right then or never. But then afterwards he panicked at what he'd done. In the end, sadly, their feelings for each other still were not expressed openly. Really a hot sex scene, by the way, this first time, shown in the flashback. A somewhat uncommon act/position...and very erotic, thank you.

When the story picks up three months later we know all that has happened in the meantime, as far as the refusion and their adventure in San Francisco. Now they're in Kirk's apartment, and it's a wonderful scene, with Spock wanting to know about their past together, wanting to be reminded how it feels to make love.... [2]
