"Another brilliant plan by the intrepid hero of the rebellion involves lots of make-up and a lovely number from the Liberator's wardrobe room. And Avon." (Summary from Bizarro).

Authors' Comments

Upon seeing the illos for this story, a certain actor's wife was heard to comment to a certain actor, "Look dear. you have a lovely bosom..." I didn't hear much of what followed, as I was crawling under a table at the time. We get to meet Lulabelle Travis once more in this little romp, as well as several other Federation...er, figures First appearance in SOUTHERN LIGHTS #3, back in May, 1987.[1]

Reactions and Reviews

The two long, humorous B7 pieces are my favorites in the zine, no doubt for reasons that shouldn't be too closely inquired into. "Kind of a Drag" is vintage BIZARRO: truly silly, in fact, truly ridiculous, but with a oore of logical structure and an underlying consistency to the characters even when they are acting in ways the serious B7 crew might consider whimsical in the extreme. It is also incredibly funny.[2]

"Kind of a Drag": COUGH!!! SPUTTER!!! CHOKE!!! Okay—who's responsible? Kramer world? A half gallon of walnut chocolate ice cream? Refugee from a London Bates story? This must be BIZAR 7! Of course, Avon would wear blue—and know makeup. (We would disown him if he didn't, right. Daddy?) High heels, true—too true! Annie's Gang? And, Bubbles—nice bust! [3]

You guys have got me hooked on your sagas, especially after such tales as "Wiener Take All", "Dancin' in the Streets", any of the ones that look at Avon's family (loved the bits with "Daddy" in "Head Over Heels"!) and "Kind of a Drag".[4]

Definitely not slash, despite being a fic in which Avon has to dress as a woman in order to pretend to be Blake's wife at a Federation conference also attended by Travis. Very funny, and (because it's 'Bizarro') accompanied by plenty of wonderful cartoons... including several of Avon dressed as a woman :D [5]
