Intellectually Attracted is a non-profit, digital zine focused on sapphic relationships in the Ace Attorney Games.

About

The project was announced on October 10, 2021, establishing itself as "a digital-only non-profit fanzine dedicated to love between AA ladies"[1]. Interest checks ran from October 15 to November 15, 2021[2]. The project reported 244 responses received[3]. Contributors could begin applying from December 1 to December 31, 2021 as artists or writers[4]. The applciations period was later extended to January 14, 2022 for the holidays[5].

Preorders opened on itch.io on May 3, 2022 with two tiers called Sugar and Spice. Sugar contains the base zine including digital merch for the price of $15 USD, while Spice contained the base zine and an additional NSFW add-on[6]. The project also organized a Community Copies program allowing marginalized or underwaged fans to receive free copies of the zine from a community pool of copies paid for by buying customers. The program's community pool began with 30 community copies and added a zine for every ten zines sold[7]. While preorders closed on July 3, 2022, the project continued the next day with an "overflow sale" on itch.io that would last until July 11, 2022[8].

The project prepared to close with a donation announcement, explaining an update on July 13, 2022 that itch.io required transactions to be seven days old before the money raised could be withdrawn[9]. This did not work out as initially expected, as on another update on July 21, 2022, the team reported that their account on itch.io was experiencing a bug that did not enable them to remove payments[10]. All was well by August 22, 2022, when the next update said that contacting itch.io support resolved the glitch with their payout[11]. Finally, the project's social media account gave their thanks to contributors and buyers alike and reported that $3,992.35 USD was donated to the Black Trans Femmes in the Arts Collective[12]

  9. ^ Twitter thread on July 13, 2020: Now that overflow sales have been over for a couple day we wanted to explain how the final steps will go in a 🧵! We wanted to be as transparent as possible about this process for the comfort of all involved. All that’s left to do is to take the money raised and donate it to the BTFAC, capping off the project! However, due to how the itch.io storefront functions we will be unable to withdraw the money raised until the 19th. That is because Itch requires that a transaction be 7 days old before it is eligible for payout! To avoid excessive transaction fees we want to take out all of the money at once, so we have to wait for every transaction to be 7 days old. Since we had transaction up until the very moment we closed the store, we will need to wait until the 19th. After that we will endeavour to donate the money as quickly as processing allows and then update you all with the final total here, thus ending the project!
  10. ^ Twitter thread on July 21, 2022: We just wanted to give another update on the final donation. We believe that Itchio has assigned us an incorrect, overly high, tax-withholding amount. This is apparently a common, recent bug that has shown up on their store that we were not aware of until we tried to remove the payments. We are attempting to get this fixed so that as much money as possible can go to our chosen charity. We have sent in a support ticket and are currently awaiting a response. If we do not receive a response. within 1 month we will look into other options to make sure the highest amount of money gets to the Black Trans Femmes in the Arts Collective. Thank you all for your patience and understanding. We hope this update clarifies what is happening and puts you all at ease.
  11. ^ Twitter thread on August 22, 2022: It has been 1 month since we contacted Itchio Support about the glitch with our payout, and we are happy to report that it has since been solved and we have begun the payout process! We want to thank everyone immensely for your patience, because of it we are able to payout significantly more funds to the Black Trans Femmes in the Arts Collective than we would have otherwise! We still will have to pay processing fees to PayPal, of course, but this is still a wonderful donation to the charity.
  12. ^ Twitter thread on September 8, 2022: Hello all! We are very pleased to announce that we have gotten approval from Itchio, and completed the donation to The Black Trans Femmes in the Arts Collective! Thanks to your generous support we were able to donate $3992.35 USD! We are so incredibly grateful for the support you all have shown us throughout this venture! And now, with this donation, it has finally come to a close. This will be our final post, but we will keep the social media accounts up, as an archive of the project! Thank you all, from the bottom of our hearts!
