Hope Mikaelson/Josie Saltzman is a femslash pairing in the Legacies fandom. While they do not become a couple during the show's run, it is canonical that they each had a crush on the other when they were teenagers.

Canon

Initially, Hope and Josie are not close, though they have known each other for many years and, later in the series run, each admit to having crushes on the other in the past. Through the series run, they become close friends.

Fandom

Hope Mikaelson/Josie Saltzman is a very popular pairing in Legacies, with the highest number of tagged fanworks in the fandom on AO3 (2,479 as of October 2023). In the AO3 Ship Stats made by centreoftheselights every year, Hope/Josie first moved into the top 100 in 2020 at 88th. They increased in popularity, reaching 36th by 2022, then moved down to 40th for the 2023 list.

There was also a lot of Hosie related fanworks, meta, and discussions on various social media platforms during the series run, and posts are still fairly common now after the series' cancellation.

Ship Wars and Fandom Drama

Ship wars involving Hosie fans were fairly common during the series run, particularly on Twitter. Often this was between the Hosie fans and the Hizzie (Hope Mikaelson/Lizzie Saltzman) fans or between the Hosie fans and the Handon (Landon Kirby/Hope Mikaelson) fans.

The hosie stans on twitter are so damn toxic and rude, which is ironic considering Danielle and Kaylee are like the nicest people. Hosie shippers literally diminish other ships, characters, and people for the sake of their own ship, it’s disgusting. I’ve seen them start fake stan accounts, start a #poachbirdboy hate filled hashtag as a “joke” pretty much hate on landon in any way they can ,or even Aria, just because he’s in the way of their ship. Even if Hope started dating Raf or even Alyssa or something I bet they’d still do the same. And It’s gone too far when you actually insult people, call anyone who doesn’t ship your ship homophobic and a lot more. You can just be vibing and hosies will rt and insult you or your ship...and for what reason?

There was also fandom drama arising from expectations that Hosie may go canon due to initial support from the cast members playing Josie and Hope, which developed into some fans making accusations of queerbaiting when the pairing did not happen in the show. Other fans felt that the toxicity of Hosie fans had a negative impact on the fandom as a whole and particularly in terms of the fan engagement the two actresses who played Josie and Hope were comfortable being involved in.

queerbaiting is NOT the fandom deciding their ship will be canon and then getting mad when their fantasies didn't become reality. so hosie is not queerbait. also before anyone says it, kaylee doesn't speak for the show. she can ship whatever she wants and it's not the show queerbaiting you. in fact writers producers show runners actors and makeup artists all told you hosie wasn't happening in this season and hosies thinking they can pretend their ship is happening and writers will be forced to follow was never going to work. still does not make it queerbaiting.
