Category field in infoboxes?

Category:Fanfiction will take us a long time to re-categorize everything, so I don't think we'll be starting on Zines any time soon, but should we add the same category field to the zine categories as I have to the fanfiction infobox and the challenges infobox?

How the change works is that the infoboxes default to one category (Category:Challenges, for example) unless the |category= field is filled out. In the fanfiction and challenges category, only pages with fandom-specific subcategories had the parent category overwritten.

  • So, a Harry Potter slash challenge has Category:Harry Potter Challenges in the infobox and Category:Slash Challenges at the bottom of the page and is not listed in Category:Challenges.
  • A slash challenge for a fandom with no applicable fandom-specific subcategory would just have the Slash Challenges category at the bottom of the page and stay in the general Challenges category.
  • Fixing the categories for the Challenge subcategories just meant going through the fandom-specific subcategories and adding the subcategory to the infobox, as we're now doing the fanfiction category.

The organization for fanfiction and for challenges was pretty simple, but obviously the zine category is much more complex and it would involve rewriting this help page with new rules, so the opinion of folks who actually uses this category would be necessary and much appreciated. - Hoopla (talk) 21:56, 26 November 2018 (UTC)

Rec to use Template:Zine for pro magazines instead of Template:ProfessionalWorks?

Question coming from here Talk:Analog - is this really the preference? Also please see my q on Talk:Locus because I also find that one confusing. Thanks! -JadedPrism (talk) 00:15, 16 July 2023 (UTC)

No, that's a mistake; zines are a type of fanwork, and professional magazines aren't fanworks. We may need some clarification around "semi-prozines" though.--aethel (talk) 12:45, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
