Hairspray is a 1988 film by John Waters that was adapted into a hit Broadway musical in 2002. A film adaption of the stage musical was released in 2007.

The 2007 film gets the most attention in fandom. It also has a small RPF fandom with a focus on Nikki Blonsky, Zac Efron, and Brittany Snow.

Hairspray Live!, a telecast of a new adaptation of the Broadway musical, was televised in 2016, hosted by Darren Criss.
