Friend of the Devil is a Duncan/Methos explicit story by Lady of Shalott.

Settings ==> The settings are nearly non-existent, running really thin in the background, but in fact, it is more like a succession of not-told. Nonetheless what isn't told is still always there between the lines. So in the end, you need to have more than a modicum of knowledge of the series to situate and see the stakes relative to both characters in order to really get into the dimension of the story.

Characters ==> Unlike a lot of stories, the characters here give the impression of occupying a lot of "space", they just are, with past issues, dealing with problems, having expectation at short or long term... they are more than how they appear and we can sense it. The take on Dark Duncan is really original and doesn't contradict the canon at all, same for Methos. Altogether this story complements what we saw on the show without tampering it.

Plot ==> This is the story of a trip, going from point A to point B, and in this perspective there isn't really any kind of constructed plot. All in all, the purpose is to shed light on the characters and the invisible but strong depth of these individuals brings a meaningful sense and purpose to the trip and to the story.

Style ==> Really excellent, the author masters her language fluidily and with a good balance for description. It would have been even more perfect if she would have given more importance to the scenery and to the circumstances. But as it is, the story stands firm and strong.

Interest ==> The staging is great and we are dragged easily, enthusiastically caught by the characters and in the same time experiencing some really really hot story.

In conclusion ==> The issues, burden, weight weaved under and around the characters really raise this fic in another realm. It isn't about romance, it is more than just PWP but it is comfort, it is relationship, it is hot twisted sex.

First up is a Highlander story. This one is by The Lady of Shalott, called Friend of the Devil and is set during the time of the Dark Quickening. Her characterisations are once again eminently enviable, but in this one I think its the superb understatement, the contained strength of Methos, the undercurrent of evil and darkness. No deaths, so don't wait around reading this rec, go and read the story!! And the Lady of Shalott still doesn't write enough fic of any description to satisfy me, so **please** send her feedback and encourage her!!
