Favored Son is a gen Starsky and Hutch story by KateCMT. It won three 2005 Torino Awards, one for best novel, best original male character, and best Starsky h/c.
In it, Starsky and Hutch, and Hutch's dad, find themselves on a tropical island where they are being hunted by a man intent on revenge. There is quite a bit of hurt/comfort and angst, and it includes the trope, Amateur Surgery.
