Reactions and Reviews

"F.Y.I." (For You, Ira, or F@#$ You, Ira--as you prefer) is an anthology of six stories and one poem, collected in commemoration of the final episode of DS9. Or perhaps "commemoration" isn't exactly the right word, as the stories in this collection supply alternative (and vastly more satisfying) endings to the series.

The AU's on offer include: a delicious look at a Kai Winn who survived the final episode's events in the fire caves of Bajor, a romantic beginning for Jake Sisko and Ezri Dax, a study of the Founders' plague, and a couple of possible futures for the not- really-deceased Sisko, Damar, and Gul Dukat. The authors are Deborah Bailey, Greg Lash, Lauren Francis, Ina Rae Hark, Calicia, Chris Heinemann, and Glen Lash.

Greg Lash contributed a most excellent poem "written" by Worf in memory of Jadzia. I'm not generally much of a poetry fan, but I found this both touching and true to the characters. And just when you need some comic relief, Glenn Lash (any relation to Greg?) is there with a new chapter in the epic saga of K'Noid, the intrepid Klingon pizza warrior. I've always enjoyed this series, although I'm not, generally speaking, a dedicated fan of Klingons. Glenn's cartoons illustrate K'Noid's adventures, and Anja Gruber contributed the excellent portraits of Sisko (on the cover) and Jadzia Dax (interior).

What did you think of the way the series ended? Do you have your own ideas about how it should have been written? If you found yourself left feeling dissatisfied and cynical, then "F.Y.I." is for you. [1]
