Elaine Hauptman was a zine editor and early vidder.

Elaine was one of the first Starsky & Hutch vidders; in fact, according to Kandy Fong and Sandy Herald's 2008 "History of Vidding" lecture, Elaine was one of the first 16 people to make vids in 1981 after seeing Diana Barbour and Kendra Hunter's first songvids at ZebraCon the year before, 1980. Elaine, along with Carol Huffman and Terry Martin, was one of the makers of The Texas Tape.

Elaine edited two letterzines, Between Friends and In the Belly of the Whale.

She also edited, along with Lucy Doty, fiction zines, including Conflicted and Assuaged, Hidden Secrets, Broken Hearts, Dance with the Devil, Don't Give Up On Us, Baby, Leave a Light On for Me, The Collected Starsky and Hutch Stories of Alexis Rogers, Test of Faith, The Lion and the Lamb, and Who You Know, What You Know, & How You Know It....

Elaine also typed the underground novel, Chameleon Universe, and had commentary in the zines, A Companion in Zeor, The Who Do We Trust Times, Tell Me Something I Don't Know! and others.

The zine, Out of Bounds: Overflow, is dedicated to Elaine:

This issue is lovingly dedicated to Elaine Hauptman who has been with us since the beginning, and has gone above and beyond the call of duty. Starsky and Hutch fandom doesn't deserve to have her! (But as long as we can borrow her once in a while....) Thanks Elaine!

Elaine passed away in March 2023.
