Change category?

*waves* Hi guys! I have a question: as a wrangler on AO3 who deals with the MCU, I'm wondering why only the individual movies have category tags instead of the MCU fandom as a whole? And why this tag, which is generic to the comics and movies and cartoons, is being used to house movie-fandom-only concepts? Can someone explain it in small words so I understand the organizational structure and its purpose? ^_^ (It's late here, I'm slow.) Thanks! -the old briar pipe (talk) 02:49, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
Not sure exactly if I will answer this correctly or not, but here it goes: this category does go for all The Avengers (Marvel) mediums, such as Movieverse, comics, and cartoons. I'm not sure why there is no general MCU category. The individual movies such as Hulk, Captain America, and Iron Man have their own categories because they are their own comic book series as well. It's not just the Avengers these characters are apart of. The Category:X-Men actually had it the same way except for X-Men: First Class which had its own category, until I helped expand the X-Men: Evolution pages. --Harpie (talk) 03:10, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, the individual movies don't have category tags -- the Iron Man category, Captain America category, etc. are for all verses, movies and comics and television shows, the same way this is for all version of the Avengers. The fact that this category is almost all MCU-related pages is just an artifact of most fanlore editors being better versed in MCU than comics-specific fandom, I think. (I'm at least always hesitant to put comics-related stuff up, because I don't read comics at all and only know stuff through fandom osmosis, which has a tendency to be distorted by the MCU. If, someday, there were a bunch of pages that were comics specific, it might make sense then to separate into comics vs. movies vs. other verses, just to keep everything easier to navigate; but at this point that seems premature. --PhoenixFalls (talk) 03:53, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
Thank you both for the explanation! So, last question - does that mean I need to add all the movies to the Ceiling Vent Clint Barton page? Since the trope's in the MCU as a whole, it shows up in works from all of the movies, even the ones he didn't get 45 second cameos in. *g* -the old briar pipe (talk) 04:36, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
I wouldn't think so -- it may show up occasionally in what's predominantly an Iron Man or Captain America or Hulk movieverse fic, but I wouldn't say it was quite a *trope* in any of those fandoms, only in the fandom that's focused around The Avengers movie. Maybe Agents of SHIELD, given how much of the established Clint/Coulson fandom migrated there; I wouldn't know about that one, because I don't read my AOS fic. But that's just my experience with the trope -- if you think it's really common in any of the other fandoms you can add it! --PhoenixFalls (talk) 04:44, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
I would just say The Avengers category and Thor category (I remember reading that trope in Clint/Darcy fics before Avengers came out), possibly Agents of SHIELD - I have actually not read a story in AOS where that appeared but I don't read Phil/Clint so maybe I just missed it.--Harpie (talk) 20:26, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

MCU

Okay, this may be covered in the above discussion but there really needs to be an MCU category. It's such an overwhelmingly huge megafandom and an absolute gamechanger of the 2010s, it's a borderline oversight there isn't a category for it that also involves non-Avengers property such as the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. I'm not sure how to decide which sub-categories/pages should go into it though I'd vote Marvel Cinematic Universe + Captain America Movieverse + The Avengers Movieverse + Iron Man Movieverse + Thor Movieverse + Spider-Man: Homecoming for a start, then popular fanon e.g. Clint Barton's Farm that's only a thing in the MCU fandom, not the wider Marvel fandom. -- Baycitybomber (talk) 23:49, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
