Anthony Horowitz is an English author and screenwriter. He has written over fifty books, including the popular Alex Rider YA series, two Sherlock Holmes novels authorized by the Conan Doyle estate, and continuations of the James Bond novels commissioned by the estate of Ian Fleming.

As a screenwriter, Horowitz wrote five episodes of Robin of Sherwood as well as a children's book novelization, Robin of Sherwood: The Hooded Man (1986). He also wrote for Agatha Christie's Poirot and Midsomer Murders—both adaptations of novel series. He created and wrote several original TV series, including Foyle's War (2002–2015) and New Blood (2016).

He is supportive of fanfiction based on his own work, responding to a reader in a 2015 webchat:

Considering you’ve written sequels to both James Bond and Sherlock Holmes, what is your attitude towards fan fiction based off of your own work? Especially the Alex Rider series, as that appears to be the 32nd most popular book series to write fan fiction for on fanfiction.net.

I shall go to fanfiction.net immediately! I had no idea this was happening. And I'm very moved. It's great to think that the Alex Rider stories are encouraging people to write, as well as read.[1]

In 1991, fans who created Robin of Sherwood zines were less permissive about fanworks than Horowitz may have been, stating in the editorial of Longbow #5:

While encouraging a wide range of ideas and story lines, we strive, above all, to create a quality publication in keeping with the characters and situations already so ably developed and realized by Richard Carpenter, Anthony Horowitz, Paul Knight, and the cast. Altering characters beyond established format, and material exceeding the bounds of decency, will NOT be accepted. This is not meant to discourage the development of intimate situations as long as they are heterosexual in content and tastefully executed.
