An Hour of Eternity is a Star Trek: TNG Picard/Q story by Varoneeka.

The story traps Q in an alt-New Orleans without his powers, and forces the couple to cooperate to get themselves out of the situation.

Author's Notes

Well, it's been a while since I finished up something on my own, so I should warn you this isn't a Bond story. It's a first-time story with a new Picard and Q, though you might think of this as another companion piece to "The Louder the Song." I've been warned by a reader that I need to tell people this isn't like TLTS, however. I'm doing something a little different. That's no surprise to people who know me, I suppose, since my stories always reflect my life, and lately, my life has...er...changed.

Reactions and Reviews

I have a serious problem with Varoneeka's fics; firstly, once she gets to the sex in any of her fics, the characters go seriously OOC, with many overdramatic declarations of love, and secondly, her interest in literally eternal love, soul-bonding, dying without your love, etc... doesn't actually seem to fit this particular pair at all. But that may be because I don't find that trope appealing. I recommend this story anyway, even though, like all her fics, it goes pear-shaped in my eyes once the sex starts, because it's the story with the longest buildup and getting-to-know-you period, and she writes that part very, very well. Picard is transported through a rift to another dimension's 20th century Earth, and Q follows him to rescue him... and is then cut off from the Continuum and loses access to his powers. The two have to survive in New Orleans with no money and no resources other than Picard's Starfleet skills and Q's intelligence. [1]

the second (picard and q in 1990s america) is absolutely one of my favorites. again, unapologetic sap and melodrama, luxurious to read.[2]

Beautiful, long story with a slow build-up.[3]

I'm not much of a P/Q 'shipper, but this story is really excellent. Varoneeka puts Picard in Q in more or less modern New Orleans, for completely believable reasons, and lets the fall in love while dealing with being in this mostly unfamiliar environment, Q being without his powers, and their efforts to get home.[4]

Picard and Q get stuck in an alternate universe version of Earth in the late 20th century where there isn't a Q continuum, so Q doesn't have his powers. They work together fabulously to try to get back, and whaddya know, wind up in love. But for your own sake, once they do the nasty for the first time, just stop reading. Otherwise you'll endure truly ridiculous amounts of declarations of love, far too much schmoop, and an inhumanly possibly amount of sex. How they get to that point is worth the read though.[5]
