Amy for Mania Campaign
On August 15, 2017 Sonic Mania was released, a new classic era Sonic game featuring Sonic, Tails, Knuckles as playable characters as well as Mighty and Ray, marking the first time the two had been playable in over 20 years. While the game was hit, there were some fans who noted the lack of any female characters, particularly Amy Rose who was similarly created in the "classic era" of Sonic like Mighty and Ray were.
When news that an expanded Sonic Mania Plus would be released in 2018 the #RoomForOneMore campaign began on Twitter with the aims of including Amy as a new playable character. The campaign was greatly popularised thanks to a fake animated trailer by Bluecore, which quickly reached over 1 million views upon released in May, 2018. In the video's description Bluecore directed viewers to support the campaign:
"Third, tell Sega we want Amy in Sonic Mania! Tweet @sonic_hedgehog #RoomForOneMore to show your support! Together we can make it happen."
On May 31, 2018, the head of Sonic's social media team, Aaron Webber, addressed the campaign during a live stream and explained why she would not be in Sonic Mania Plus.
If we had all the time and money in the world, Amy could certainly be in there. But it's one of those cases of, [the developers] had an idea of what they wanted to make, from a development, from a production standpoint, and they made those characters. But please know that a lot of us here are huge supporters of Amy in general as a character and we love seeing her as much as possible."
In December 2018, Sonic Mania released a Holiday Special short featuring Amy and Metal Sonic, which many took as further acknowledging the campaign. While the campaign was unsuccessful in bringing Amy to Sonic Mania, many believe it aided in her inclusion in future games, such as Sonic Frontiers, Sonic Origins Plus and Sonic Superstars.

Sonamy is Amy's most popular ship thanks to her conical crush on Sonic. Shadamy, Metamy and Blazamy are also popular.
