A Snack Before Dinner is a 71-page Buffy the Vampire Slayer gen fanzine by Tina Cooling.

It premiered at MediaWest in 1998.

Summary: "Angel has lost his soul. It's time for Buffy to lose her friends."

From the Introduction

This is a story about Angel. Well, sort of. It's about Angelus, you know, the psychotic stalker-boy that he became when his soul got ripped away. It's dark. Incredibly dark, and violent, and full of angst. If you're looking for a happy, fluffy, sappy love story, then it's not here. Well, the love is here, but it's not happy.

This story is rated NC-17, and not for erotica (don't I wish there was a lovely piece of erotica here, by the way). There's a whole checklist of Not Good things this story contains: profanity, torture, violence, sexual aggression of a nonconsensual nature, and pile on top of all this stuff is an incredibly large helping of angst. Pretty much everything I've listed here is written extremely explicitly.

It's not a pretty story, though I'm sure you've guessed that by now.

I certainly need to thank the Sunnydale Slayers, the best list for fall-down, can't breathe, oh-my-God-do-you-believe-what-Joss-did, what's going to happen next, how does this relate to history and isn't this fact incredibly cool discussion of the show that I know of. I also need to thank those of them that read this story as I was writing it - the wig factor of this thing is almost unimaginable. There are too many of you guys to thank individually, so a large group thanks is about all I can do.

Thanks also to the NatPack (many of them are Sunnydale Slayers already, yes, but thanks anyway), my first fannish faction, and the place where I made a lot of great friends.

If you're looking for other fanfic from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer universe, I'll recommend Sunnydale Slayers Fanfic Archive.... and Ms. Calendar's Doman - The Library (yes, it's my page, but it's not just my fanfic)... There are also zines on sale by other Sunnydale Slayers -- the Alternative Viewpoints Zine, and our first fanfic complication zine (which I have stories in, mind you), as well as Exiles, a non-Buffy crossover that's really great (hey, it's got Natalie Lambert in it, so it's got to be good!)
