The Devotion Series is a Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan series by Destina Fortunato. Originally posted as a series of five stories, they were later combined and reposted with the title A Place of Silence. In addition to that Destina wrote an epilogue and a few vignettes.

Recs and Reviews

[Mac & Anna's Place]
This is not a pretty story, its dark, angsty and superb. When Obi-Wan is stolen from him, Qui-Gon will go anywhere, even into the Dark, to bring him home. This story shook me when I first read it. Amazing stuff.[1]

"A Place of Silence" by Destina Fortunato - It affected me somewhat like how "An Uncommon Fear of Shifting" did (possibly due to their similar basic plots), but in a completely different way. Again, the story questions and explores how far Qui-Gon is willing to go and what he's willing to do for Obi-Wan. Summary: "Obi-Wan is captured by slavers and Qui-Gon risks everything to get him back."
"If he tried to remember the exact moment he had abandoned all his chivalrous notions about using the Force, he found the recollections hazy. Cold and hunger had stripped away most of his moral objections; the raw need to find his Padawan had mercifully freed him from his strict adherence to his training. It was not as hard as he'd imagined it might be, to step away from the guilt of manipulating others. It was convenient, and necessary...and very, very easy."[2]

[The Obi-Wan Torture Oasis]
[A PLACE OF SILENCE] This powerful story by the Destina Fortunato shows Qui-Gon willing to throw everything he is or ever will be away for Obi-Wan's sake. Originally the entire (parts 1 through 6) "Devotion" series.[3]

The Devotion Series by Destina Fortunato. NC17 | NCS | AU | Slave-fic [...] Alright, so you know how I said I wasn't going to rec slave fics? I lied.

The actual slavery part of this fic is rather short lived, most of it deals with what happens after Qui-Gon rescues Obi-Wan.

What's so interesting about this story though is how both Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon have been pulled into darkness by what's occured, yet their only way back out is eachother. Qui-Gon's love for Obi-Wan caused him to give up practicing the Jedi code and go to whatever lengths it took to rescue him from slavery, but it is also what pulls Obi-Wan from the dark as well. It poses questions about how harmful actions or intentions can bring about good consequences, while sometimes caring actions and intentions can bring about bad consequences.

It's intriguing, but also very romantic and touching.[4]

Hope too long unfulfilled can be a horror all its own, in A Place of Silence by Destina Fortunato. ("With every stinging blow came a deep thrust, and a harsh grunt of pleasure. Once again, they had beaten him into submission, as was the custom; they would doubtless have been disappointed if he had simply succumbed.") Note: First story in The Devotion Series. The Phantom Menace: Or the Fandom that Ate the world. Seriously, there is a lot of talent in this fandom and a lot of variety. I am being discerning -- I'm trying anyway<G>. [...] A Place of Silence -- by Destina Fortunato. It's haunting and painful and beautiful, the first installment in the Devotion Series.[6]

Okay, we're a little behind on this rec, but it's worth repeating far and wide. This is a "don't miss" series fill with drama, heartrending angst and Destina's straightforwardly beautiful prose. *sighing* It's complete and it's wonderful. Scroll a little bit down that page and check it out.[7]

When Obi-Wan disappears, Qui-Gon will stop at nothing to find him. Besides the angst and h/c, I love the element of love and devotion in this novella most of all. One of Destina's best.

If he tried to remember the exact moment he had abandoned all his chivalrous notions about using the Force, he found the recollections hazy. Cold and hunger had stripped away most of his moral objections; the raw need to find his Padawan had mercifully freed him from his strict adherence to his training. It was not as hard as he'd imagined it might be, to step away from the guilt of manipulating others. It was convenient, and necessary...and very, very easy. The nagging doubts which once accompanied every broken tenet of the Jedi Code were now nothing more than details, relegated to some part of his conscience which was tightly sealed...lest he feel compelled to follow the Code once again. Several Jedi Masters tried in vain to persuade him to return to Coruscant, to give up the search for Obi-Wan. Yoda had not minced words telling him of the Council's displeasure, reminding him of his responsibilities, threatening him, scolding him, pleading with him when all else failed. Qui-Gon would not be moved. The small Force-driven voice which resided inside his determination would not be ignored. His instincts chattered at him constantly, keeping him on task. He was never sure at what point the Council had stopped calling, trying to rein him in; he threw the comlink away when he left the negotiations on Miterra, and never looked back.[8]
