From 2023 on TikTok, fannish videos using the audio of the quote "You could live a hundred lifetimes and never deserve that boy", as spoken by Haymitch Abernathy in the film adaptation of The Hunger Games' Catching Fire began to trend. Creators of the edits typically used images of characters they believe were undeserved by their love interested (or, less commonly, fanon love interests).

The quote was also popular with fans of the original books and the films, with YouTube videos being made after 2013 using the sentiment or audio, as well as discussions around the quote and how accurate fans felt it was or wasn't.

One of the earliest examples of the edit appears to have been posted in 2021, with a fannish edit of Peeta Mellark and Katniss Everdeen, however the wider trending use of the audio linked to that first video largely appear to be from November/December 2023 onward. Even on the original 2021 vid, the majority of comments had been posted in December 2023 and January 2024. This suggests that another post using the audio was likely posted in November/December 2023 that caused it to trend.

Some edits went on to use different text, most notably changing "boy" to "man", "girl", or "woman", but the original audio remained unchanged. While some edits involved clips of a single pairing, others were in a slideshow format with collections of the people who could "live a hundred years" on slide one with the one they'll "never deserve" on slide two.
