The X-Files Preservation Collection, also known as XFP, is one of, if not the largest "collection of screen used props, wardrobe, and set dressing from The X-Files".

It is run by two fans, the couple Jim Thornton and Kelly Anthony, out of New York State. X-Files creator Chris Carter himself has donated many of his personal memorabilia to Jim Kelly, including the laptop, on which he wrote the script for the X-Files pilot episode and much more.

The owners plan on to convert the collection into some kind of museum in Saratoga Springs in the near future after a crowd-funding campaign has raised sufficient funds.[1]

Some donations and props can be viewed on the website.

XFP also has started doing a collection of video interviews labelled Unsung Heroes of The X-Files with people from The X-Files cast and crew, which are hosted on XFP's YouTube Channel.

The museum's grand opening was held on April 30, 2022, with Special Guest of Honor Chris Carter in Saratoga Springs, NY.

Manifesto

"The purpose of this collection is to Preserve these items for the fandom and to pay tribute to those involved in the creation of The X-Files. Chris Carter, without whom we would have none of this. David and Gillian, the threads that held it all together. The art department, prop masters, makeup artists, and costume department, all of whom deserve to be recognized for their contributions. The X-Files would not be what is without the guest stars and supporting actors and we are proud to display the wardrobe that they brought to life.

The items in the collection deserve to be properly preserved and displayed for the fans. Some items come to us in need of restoration and we do our best to repair these items. Once an item is added to the collection it has a permanent home and will be displayed in our museum for all to see and experience."

History

Like Chris Carter, Jim was a big fan of the 1970s TV show Kolchak:The Night Stalker, so when The X-Files debuted in 1993, he started collecting Trading Cards. With him "owning a part of the show", his collection started and evolved over the last 20+ years:

I have commercial stuff, I have promotional stuff, I have things given out to crew members as gifts, screen-used props, wardrobe...
