The Star Trek Review was a radio show in New York City which was "an information and nostalgia show covering all phases of Star Trek."

A similar later show was Talk Trek and Beyond.

People Involved

Announcers and creators: Casey, Jay, Dave, and Allan (Allan Asherman?).

I was going to see Leonard Nimoy! To meet him! That was my first interview for the Trekey Show; an information and nostalgia show covering all phases of Star Trek. After two weeks of broadcasting the most exciting things that happened were the on-the-air phone calls with questions about our "multiplicative proclivities" or the location of the powder room on a starship. With a little luck this Interview could attract some attention and boost the show into the "Big time".

I must explain that the show is an amateur production, conceived on-the-run, with only a vague idea of what to do once we were sitting in front of a live mike. It showed. Painfully.

On that first show my co-announcer, Jay, had a prepared Intro that he polished off in a minute or so. The only problem was filling the next 29 minutes.

The thought of a ghastly silence shocked Jay into action, an excerpt from "The World of Star Trek" ensued. A welcome commercial every now and then was about the only thing that didn't have to be ad-libbed. When it was over Jay and I knew that a monster had been born; a true disaster. We received so many obscene phone calls that my palms are beginning to sweat even now.

The second show was better, slightly. We managed to organize some what and by that time a few real Star Trek fans had heard about us. We knew however, that we needed help. [...]

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I FOUND OUT RIGHT AWAY IS THAT DOING A RADIO SHOW IS WORK! EACH AND EVERY WEEK ALLAN, DAVE AND I HAVE TO GET TOGETHER IN ALL KINDS OF WEATHER, BARRING ALL OTHER ENGAGEMENTS. THAT'S WORK! WE HAVE TO SIT DOWN AND SWEAT OUT TIME ALLOCATION, SCHEDULING, COMMERCIAL MESSAGE VS. DISCUSSION TIME DENSITY AND OTHER EQUALLY DULL TASKS. THAT'S WORK! BEFORE THE SHOW STARTED I HAD TO TYPE UP SEVERAL HUNDRED INDEX CARDS CROSS INDEXING ALL OF THE STAR TREK EPISODES, AUTHORS, ACTORS AND ACTRESSES

AND CHARACTERS. AND THAT WAS REAL WORK! [1]

Fan Comments

From a fan in 1975:

Speaking of radio, did you hear of The Star Trek Review? It's on WHBI-FM (105.9) in New York City at 1/30 AM, I repeat, AM -- Monday nights or Tuesday mornings, whichever you prefer. It's amateurly done, basically because neither Casey nor Allan really know how to conduct interviews, but at times it is interesting if not always informative. They keep going through changes and have improved the quality of the sound considerable, which was a much needed improvement. [2]
