Talk:Whispering Gallery (Dorothy Dunnett letterzine)

Okay, the dates on these zines and on the websites seemed contradictory, so I tried googling for more info. Lo and behold! This is the first ever edition of Whispering Gallery, produced in October 1991 by the Edinburgh Book Festival. It started with Number 33, because it was, effectively, an offshoot of the long standing Marzipan and Kisses Letterzine which had previously produced 32 issues.

I found a little more info here: [1] Whispering Gallery is the worldwide correspondance magazine for Dunnett readers. For many years there were two versions of it - the US one which started it all off was called Marzipan & Kisses ... The UK one was called Whispering Gallery and was originally run under the Dorothy Dunnett Foundation and edited by Val Bierman. After the release of Gemini and the last of the major official gatherings at Edinburgh 2000, the Foundation was wound up and Dorothy transferred the funds to a new body to continue the magazine. --æthel 19:47, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

I have tidied up the history (it's issue 33, not 34, that WG started with, as æthel spotted, and I'll be updating the DDRA web page to agree with rhis statement), and I have made clear that WG is a magazine rather than a letterzine (we get very few letters now as most discussion has gone to the internet discussion lists such as [email protected]). I have also granted permission for WG covers 106 and 45 to appear on this web page: WG is copyrighted by DDRA which does not agree with Fanlore policy that reproduction of every cover of every magazine and every piece of artwork therein is "Fair Use". Sometimes the DDRA must seek approval from those producing any original images before we reproduce them on/in WG, and in some cases that usage is limited by the originator. --simhedges 03:05, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
