Talk:Reminisce With Me/Entering Star Trek Fandom

Query: I was going to link Kirk-Spock to Star Trek: The Original Series/Kirk/Spock but then it occurred to me that we might want to preserve the distinction between Kirk-Spock friendship stories and Kirk/Spock slash stories (thought Nancy's h/c seems to me to be really straddling that line. I thought about linking it to K/S but then decided against it because gen h/c friendship might be close but isn't the same and I didn't want to conflate it with a romantic/sexual relationship if that wasn't intended. On the other hand, I don't know where we could link it. If we had a section for gen fic on the TOS page, the redirect could go to that section. --Doro 20:52, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

I thought about linking too but didn't because I don't think it is the same. IMO that subfandom is large enough that we can have a close friendship and a slash subpage eventually, like it is in LOTR with Aragorn and Legolas, which has a Aragorn/Legolas subpage and and Aragorn & Legolas Friendship subpage.--RatCreature 20:56, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Hm--I'm now thinking that maybe what's needed is a Kirk-Spock section on the Kirk/Spock page, talking about how there is both but how one really slid into the other in a lot of cases (h/c in particular.) I mean, the invention of slash is partly how K-S + H/C starts to look like K/S to SOME but not ALL fans. I think this could be done without invalidating anyone's reading if it were done delicately to suggest that some, but not all, friendship fic became smarm/hurt-comfort became K/S, and other fic didn't and don't see it that way.--Fcoppa 21:16, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

I'd still like it better if the friendship fic wasn't just framed as the prelude to slash. Sure that is one thing it was, but not the totality, I don't think. And the K/S page is fairly long as it is, so I'm not sure that the main bulk of the history of gen Kirk-Spock should also go on that page. I'd rather have it as its on thing an the connection as the pages linking to each other, and summarizing briefly.--RatCreature 21:31, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

I would be fine with a K-S subpage but the main TOS page doesn't even have a section for fanfic yet, so maybe we could add one and if it gets too long, it could still move to a subpage. Right now everything about fanfic before K/S is merged with the timeline and the fandom section begins with fanfiction.net. If we explain K-S on the TOS page, we could work in a link to The Premise on the K/S page which would connect these two interpretations of their relationship.--Doro 21:57, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
