Was DS the first actual flashfic community (started in April 2003)? I've always thought so, because later ones I've seen refered to the DS flashfic as model, and the first DS flashfic post explains it was modelled after the Wednesday100 comm in SV, which is more specific drabble length, but I'm not completely sure the term "flashfic" originated there. --Ratcreature 18:53, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

"Flash fiction" is actually a non-fannish term, it wasn't invented by fandom. Wikipedia says "The term "flash fiction" likely originated in James Thomas', Denise Thomas', and Tom Hazuka's 1992 anthology of that title." I don't know when the first *fannish* flashfic comm was, though. (Wednesday100 was definitely the first *drabble* community, though.) -- Liviapenn 19:16, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
