Talk:Dream SMP

Just wanted to leave a quick message on the talk page for any other editors. The Dream SMP, having sooo many Minecraft YouTubers, is recorded in dozens upon dozens of different vids/streams, across a lot of different content creators. While I'm trying to parse out the story from the fan wiki, and my own viewership of Wilbur Soot, there's probably a LOT of canon and fanon content I might miss because of how many YouTubers/streamers were involved in this. If there are any editors who watch the people involved in Dream SMP whose perspectives aren't captured here, please feel free to edit those in! I'm sure the Dream SMP isn't totally centered around L'Manburg and it's revolution/wars.. Patchlamb (talk) 19:00, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

Yeah, that's the problem with trying to put the entire story of the DreamSMP on one page, since there are so many different sidestories and perspectives. And, depending on whose perspective you watch, the different way you look at the characters and their stories. alienkiid (talk)

Some errors here - the Dream SMP fandom doesn't consider itself a RPF fandom, because it's roleplay fiction based. This can be seen by the fandom's attitude overall and media coverage of DSMP and its fanbase, and the streamers themselves confirming multiple times that DSMP is a work of fiction and that their characters aren't themselves. Additionally, Heat Waves isn't a Dream SMP fanfiction, it's just RPF about Dream. Should be moved to his page. Wanted to post a talk page message before editing to see if anyone actively edits this page who has an issue with this. --Serilly (talk) 16:48, 3 October 2021 (UTC)

May depend on what part of the Dream SMP fandom that's being looked at, and how far back. I'm not 100% sure on it, but since the SMP was started with only three members, was it always scripted? Or did the scripted plots only start after a certain member joined, like Tommy or Wilbur? And I do know some of the Dream SMP content isn't all plot-based, as they're not always playing their characters. Quackity has quite a few videos on his YouTube- might be on his second channel though- of him just playing around on the SMP without it being directly about any meaningful plot. Likewise, though some fandom members might take it in as if it were part of the plot, I've seen some TommyInnit videos set in the Dream SMP that weren't related to any plot, like the ones were he just hangs out with Dream's sister. So I definitively do feel like there is some overlap between the MCYT RPF and the scripted character-based parts of it. Some of the audience may be in both the RPF and the c! part of the fandom, and some may only be involved in the Dream SMP fandom because they were already in the RPF part of MCYT (for example, I was a fan of Wilbur Soot as a content creator and through that became more interested in Dream SMP). I wouldn't remove the connection between the RPF and the Dream SMP all together because of that. It could be a good idea to make a subsection under "Fandom" about how the audience treats them as content creators vs. characters, there's already a part about the use of c! but not cc!, and if we made that info its own subsection it could make that info stand out more, and could be expanded upon. Though, the section on Heat Waves could stand to be removed, as you're right that it's not part of the Dream SMP. It has it's own page already and is mentioned on other pages like Dream's page. Looks like it's not on the MCYT page though, would be good to add to that one. Patchlamb (talk) 21:19, 3 October 2021 (UTC)
