Mark Merlino, known as Sy Sable in the furry fandom, was co-founder of Confurence, the first furry convention, along with his later partner Rod O'Riley. He also founded the Cartoon/Fantasy Organization, organized the very first furry room parties and the first furry BBS, and provided housing to displaced furs since 1980.
He passed away on February 20, 2024 from complications of a stroke around New Year's Eve that was caused by Stage 4 liver cancer[1].

I've known Sy and Rod for most of my life.This is heartbreaking. This is a vast and terrible loss. I know the community Sy helped to build will live and last, because it was built strong, but it will never be the same.
