Susan Foreman is the granddaughter and companion of the first Doctor in the British TV series Doctor Who. She travelled alongside Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright, two of her teachers who the Doctor basically kidnaps.
In a DWM short comic, her real name is revealed to be Arkytior, though this isn't common knowledge and given the show's interesting relationship to its own canon, some fans have chosen to ignore it. Occasionally, this name will be used for her, though 'Susan' is still the most common way to refer to her.
Given she hasn't been seen onscreen since her departure in 1964's The Dalek Invasion of Earth, she is frequently the subject of speculation, with suggestions new characters are secretly Susan popping up all the time. This is also fueled by her being The Doctor's granddaughter, and therefore a Gallifreyan, and possibly a Time Lord and thus capable of regeneration - though this is something fans often differ on.
Fandom
Her reception in the fandom is often various degrees of indifference, especially as she travels with the much more positively received Ian and Barbara, and is also followed by Vicki Pallister who, though less well known, fills a similiar companion role to her but is generally considered to be the better of the two.
