From 1997 a submission guideline flyer for Journeys, Paths to Enlightenment:

a 1997 submission flyer

Before I begin our guidelines, let me first state why we began Soaring Crane Press. We are big fans of Kung Fu, the Legend Continues and are more interested in getting stories to the fans than in winning any awards for our zine. At first we wanted to call it Not-so-Perfect Press. After years of either being rejected or having stories ripped apart for grammar or length or just not being answered, we decided to go with the fun part of fandom. Fans want stories, they don’t care about grammar very much or spellings. They want to read about the characters they’ve come to love. Therefore, that’s why we started our Journeys, and after all, someone once said "It 's not the goal but the journey.” Of course we want stories that make sense, they have to be somewhat readable and believable. We are not English majors nor are we professional editors, but we do care about you and your writing. And as it’s been stated ‘the journey of a 1000 miles begins with the first step.” We hope you’ll take that first step with us.

GUIDELINES FOR JOURNEYS:

1. Length is not important. Just tell your story' whether it’s five, ten or fifty pages.

2. Please no SLASH. We prefer good clean topics. We will accept rape, child porn, abuse or molestation as long as it’s done with desecration and taste, no graphic or gory scenes. Let’s face it those are police cases but please use tact if writing. We want to remain prime time.

3. We like the hurt/comfort themes and emphasis on relationships.

4. Please no Paul Blaisdell’s death. We honor his character in our zine and want to keep his character alive.

5. No stories of Peter’s character begin raped or subjected to torture. He’s had enough emotional traumas.

6. If you don’t think it would be accepted on TV. then don’t write it. We want to continue the themes of the show. Magic, spiritual and black magic themes accepted as long as they are believable.

7. We will print your story as you send it. Corrections in spelling or some grammar will be made but we will not redo dialogue or alter theme without permission. If it doesn’t make sense we’ll contact you.

8. We w ill contact you within a reasonable time. If you submit to us we will honor you and not let you hanging for months. Your work is important to us.

9. Artwork must look within reason of characters.

10. Writer’s and all submitters will receive a copy' of the zine.

11. If possible send your submission on a disk. We can accept either Macintosh Claris or IMB Windows 95 or Word Perfect, Microsoft formats, plus hard copy please.

We hope you will be a part of our fanzine. We know what it’s like out there in zineland and offer a home to your hard work.
