Vidder's Notes

In her review of the 2003 Escapade vid show, posted to the Vidder Mailing list in 2003, Killa notes:

" Hmm, maybe a good spot to say that one should always listen to Lum's ideas -- she was so right about this being a Xena song, I just had to figure out for who. Thanks for the song, Lum!"[1]

Reactions and Reviews

"I also loved Killa's "Salome" vid for Xena –a fandom and show I never watched. It had a sweetness to it and a sense of longing. From the fans that were at the con, I gather the show itself was never as thematically focused as the vid, which speaks well of Killa's skill in extracting the images to create the mood."[2]

"Salome is an exploration of the relationship between Xena and Ares from Ares' POV, with hints of Xena/Gabrielle, and is just utterly gorgeous - slow, sensual, a dance of war and love. This is her only vid in this fandom, but her Highlander and TOS vids are also among the best I've seen. Highly recommended."[3]

"Folks....

whatever else you do or don't do....

if you are a shipper or even just someone who appareciates the Xena/Ares dynamic....

WATCH "SALOME"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trust me -- the 2+ hour download is worth every second of it.

Beautiful song, beautiful images.... it's sensuous, poignant, romantic, sexy, angsty... it's everything that X/A is!

(I should add that it definitely has a "doomed love" angle on X/A, and conveys that they cannot be together.... but whether or not you like that idea ... watch the video!)"[4]

"Holy swamp gas! That video of Killa's is so hot! Is Killa a man? It really captures Ares angst and pain and desire and frustration, and superior sex appeal and how he sees Xena. I was so impressed!"[5]

"I must say "Salome" is.... exceptional. Very smooth, extensive clip research and matching, smooth transistions. Wonderful mix of the up and down moments. Breathtaking - simply breathtaking.[6]

"one thing I especially liked about "Salome" was the way the author incorporates into this video images that are not actually related to Ares and Xena on the show, like the HEART OF DARKNESS clips, or the ones from LEGACY (Xena lying in bed lost in thought, and the helmet being swept away by the desert wind). There was also one that I think was from DREAMWORKER, where Xena is reclining on her back. That was very original and creative, I thought, to use those clips."[7]

"....it does seem that when someone is creating an X/A video they tend to restrict themselves to certain eps to draw footage from. The "other" shots in "Salome" did very well in illustrating the point. I would note that the author doesn't appear to be an actual Xena fan and that the notations said that she was creating the vid for someone else. It could actually have been that combination of factors that "freed" her to take footage from other episodes."[8]
