Nick/Carly is a fanon pairing between Nick Jones and Carly Jones in the House of Wax fandom.

Canon

Nick and Carly Jones are two main characters from the film, and are revealed to be twins. Nick is considered to be the "Evil Twin", since he gets in trouble a lot (he was in jail just before the film started and did other various "bad" things). Carly is considered to be the "Good Twin", going to school and getting an internship at InStyle magazine (and moving from their small town to New York for it). Together, they are going to go see a football game with their mutual friends (Wade, Dalton, Blake and Paige) - although Nick is only good friends with Dalton but was invited by Blake, while Carly is best friends with Paige and going out with Wade.

During the film, they hit a roadblock and take a detour, but in the middle of nowhere decide to stop and "rest". Everyone parties until a truck pulls up before leaving after Nick throws his beer at it. The next morning, they wake up and realize a fan belt from Wade's car is cut, and decide to split up. Carly and Paige go to the bathroom and finds a graveyard of roadkills when Carly falls through a bush and into it. Wade and Nick come to her rescue along with other guys. While Wade is busy asking a man that pulls up to the site if he knows where a close by mechanic or gas station is, Nick gives Carly his own shirt off his back since hers is ruined with blood.

Lester takes Wade and Carly, who wouldn't let Wade go alone, to Ambrose - a small town close by while the others head to the game. The town looks abandoned practically but Wade and Carly explore it a bit and find Bo Sinclair who promises to help them and leads them back to his house. Nick and the others come back to the campsite because the traffic was too bad to go anywhere, Nick and Dalton head out to Ambrose to check up on Carly and Wade since they were still gone. After Wade's gone too long in Bo's house, and she looks at his truck, Carly realizes it was the same truck from the night before. When Bo finally comes back out without Wade, Carly realizes something's not right.

Carly just manages to get away from Bo when she realizes the whole town is wax people. Bo catches and locks her in the basement of the gas station, duct taping her arms and legs to the chair and super-gluing her lips together to keep her from screaming[1]. It was then that they hear Nick and Dalton above the gas station; Dalton separates from Nick and is killed. Carly, however manages to rip her lips apart and warn her brother about Bo - but not before Bo cuts off a part of her finger. Cue sibling bonding as Nick saves Carly and kickass fighting as Nick and Carly fight Bo... leaving him dead.

Nick and Carly head back to Bo's house because Carly's phone was in Bo's truck, however they find it gone so they look inside the house where they learn the truth behind Bo and Vincent. Nick and Carly set fire to the house which spreads to the "House of Wax" museum basement, the fire so intense that it literally starts to melt to museum because everything inside it was made of wax. Nick and Carly manage to finally kill both Bo and Vincent, before crawling and digging their way out of the museum as it collapses.

The next morning, police and ambulance are at the scene and the local sheriff talks to Nick and Carly before the ambulance takes Nick and Carly, together, away from the town.

Fandom

Nick/Carly became a popular pairing after the film was released, despite the fact that it was an incest/twincest pairing. The pairing is mainly seen in vids and fics, however on Tumblr there are a few gif/picspams and manips of Nick/Carly.

Fan reasoning on why they ship Nick/Carly:

"Nick and Carly have great tension at the beginning... Carly is annoyed with him for his bad attitude, but Nick’s behavior toward Carly is a lot more complicated. He’s never really rude to her directly...

Nick seems to communicate with Carly in a secret way, with his eyes. I don’t know what he’s saying, but I choose to believe it’s sexual in nature. Anyway, I’m pretty sure these looks are what put out the “incest vibe” that at least one person picked up on. ...

There’s also this almost subconscious idea set up that only Nick is worthy of Carly (and not Wade) because only Nick is able to protect her and survive. Of course, Carly carries her own weight and it’s definitely a team effort, but I think that image still establishes itself. It’s part of what reinforces the whole they’re-meant-to-be-because-only-they-live thing... Nick gives his sister the shirt off his back and she accepts it. Well, the wife beater off his back. What a gentleman. She takes it and puts it on. She changes right there... Carly goes through a lot of hell before she reconnects with Nick, but once she does they’re pretty much together for the rest of the movie... "[1]

"I re-watched it again today... and I still think the incestuous flame is burning pretty hot! On top of the subtext, the sexual chemistry just oozed out of Chad Michael Murray and Elisha Cuthbert on screen (which obviously adds fuel to the fire)....

They were at odds at the beginning of the story and have to come together to fight for their survival in the end. Not only are they reunified, but their relationship seems to have developed into something more.

I love the fact that the brother and sister twins are the last two standing in House of Wax. There’s also this almost subconscious idea that only Nick is worthy of loving Carly. Since Nick is able to protect her and survive, when no one else could."[2]

Even fans that don't normally root for a incest pairing between two characters saw the chemistry between Nick and Carly, or fans that didn't even realize that Nick and Carly were brother and sister; for example:

"During the first few minutes of the movie, I wasn’t really paying attention, so during the scenes at the diner I was thinking that Nick... and Carly were exchanging some “knowing” type of looks. Wade (who was obviously the boyfriend) was very wary of him and Nick wasn’t acting nice to him either (jealousy, perhaps?), and as the scenes wore on (and I was still unfamiliar with the characters) I noticed a lot of looks passed between them, or at least from Nick to Carly. I started thinking perhaps this guy was Carly’s ex or somesuch. The sexual tension was really there, and I wasn’t even looking for it. And that was at VERY start of the movie. Let’s not forget that fanservice scene in which Nick took off his top and offered it to Carly. THE WAY THEY LOOKED AT EACH OTHER, seriously. And again, I reiterate, I wasn’t even paying that much attention... After a while, I figured out that they WERE siblings… and then further I found out they were TWINS. And then… stuff happened. Throughout the film I was subconsciously rooting for Nick and Carly… "[3]

"I don’t think I noticed this stuff in my first viewing, back in 2005. I also don’t think I realized they were brother and sister, or even twins – well it is only mentioned a few times! I think I thought they were just switching partners! So obviously they come off more as a couple then siblings...

You might forget Carly and Nick are brother and sister and think they are a real couple (like I did) at a few points in the film. Incest subtext anyone? Here are a few examples:

They get half naked around each other.... Nick shows jealousy towards her boyfriend. Nick puts out this bad boy vibe. Nick seems to always be hitting on his sister Carly.

They are constantly giving these scorching looks to each other. Like literally, scorching!"[2]

Common Tropes & Themes

  • Post-Movie is very popular; this way people can deal with the aftermath of the film.
    • Nick and Carly come out at the end traumatic, leaving each other the only ones to understand what they are dealing with.
  • PWP - this is usually used to help solve the "sexual tension" between the two characters, and one way for Nick/Carly to deal with everything that happened in the movie.
