The Newsies Justice League was a Newsies mailing list. The associated forum was online in 2003 and 2004 and had over 50 members. The fanfiction.net community remained active until 2007. Member fanworks included How I Spent My Summer Vacation by queenitsy, Pretend by Mondie, and more than forty others. The mailing list itself was offline by 2004. The NJL's movement to LiveJournal may have been responsible for the subsequent growth of the fandom as present on the site.
The NJL hosted a holiday fic contest in 2003.[1] They also held a summary contest in 2004, in which members guessed authors based on writing style.[2] The New Donnelly roleplay community, active in 2012, was used primarily be NJL members.[3]
The NJL is an elite group for fans of the 1992 Disney Musical Newsies. We were founded in 2003 as an outlet for fans who were getting frusterated with the startling about of god awful Newsies fanfiction floating around the internet. Each member goes through a thorough evaluation before being admitted to make sure that their writing isn't crap, basically, so there will be no bad stories here. No Mary Sues, no time travel, no cliches.
