Marinette Dupain-Cheng is the titular character and protagonist of Miraculous Ladybug. Her superhero identity is Ladybug. She is half-French, half-Chinese, growing up in Paris. She attends college (French equivalent of middle-school) during the day, assists in her parents' bakery, and fights akumas when needed, Her hobbies include fashion design, art, and video games.

Canon

Marinette is a high school student (and class representative) who attends Collège Françoise Dupont in Paris, France along with the other main characters of the series. She dreams of one day being a fashion designer, and many of the show's plots involve her designing clothing or other items, such as the album cover for rocker Jagged Stone's new album.

In her free time outside of school and super hero duties, Marinette plays video games and babysits. Her parents own a bakery, and she sometimes works there as well.

Marinette is generally outgoing, except around her crush - classmate Adrien Agreste. She is also extremely empathetic and tends to lack self-confidence. When she's nervous, she gets clumsy.

  • Identity Porn is a common fic trope, since several important people in Marinette's life interact with her as both Marinette and Ladybug. This goes double when it comes to Adrien Agreste, who is Marinette's crush and also Ladybug's superhero colleague Chat Noir, but neither is aware of the other's secret identity, resulting in four different relationships between a single pair of people.

There have been some significant crossover pairings, such as Marinette and Damian Wayne, known as "Maribat", which stemmed from dissatisfaction with Marinette's implied canon love interest during the season 3 episode "Chameleon."
