One of the biggest and most iconic rock bands ever, KISS started in 1973 out of the ashes of Wicked Lester. They are famous for their over-the-top live shows involving face paint, explosions, Gene spitting blood (fake), fire (real) and rolling out his long tongue. Their most famous songs include "Rock N Roll All Nite," "Detroit Rock City" and "Beth."

One of its members, Gene Simmons, used to contribute to zines. See En Garde #5 (The Avengers (TV)) (1968) and "Fantasy News #8 (1968), using his wallet name Gene Klein.

Fandom

Starting in the 1980s, fans began holding Kiss Conventions or Expos. In 1994 at the "First Annual Detroit Convention" group members, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley made a surprise visit, where they "raided" a display of their old costumes and equipment, that they claimed had been stolen from them. Inspired by the popularity of these fan-run expos, they started having their own official conventions in 1995, featuring memorabilia displays and the band performing an acoustic set. The success of these would lead to the original line-up reuniting and performing full shows, again.
