The Khajiit are a species within the land of Tamriel in The Elder Scrolls video game series. They usually resemble humanoid cat-people, and as a result are popular with furries.

Canon

Khajiit come from the region of Elsweyr on Tamriel's south coast.

Furstock

Khajiit have varying body types and sizes, with each distinct variation being known as a furstock. There are 17 different furstocks, and each individual's furstock is based on the phases of the moon in which they were born under: Alfiq, Alfiq-raht, Cathay, Cathay-raht, Dagi, Dagi-raht, Ohmes, Ohmes-raht, Pahmer, Pahmer-raht, Senche, Senche-raht, Suthay, Suthay-raht, Tojay, Tojay-raht, and the Mane.

The Khajiit furstocks include a range of variations on the idea of anthropomorphic cat people: the Ohmes and Ohmes-raht resemble humanoids with certain cat-like qualities; the former even more human or elf-like than the latter, whereas the Alfiq are frequently confused for housecats.

Notable Khajiit

Fandom

Bro can you just imagine finding like an baby baby Alfiq kitten and you don’t realize they’re Khajiit. You go “Aww poor little guy” and keep them and then suddenly that fucker starts learning to talk to you.[1]

The different furstocks often brings up some interesting questions or thoughts, especially regarding reproduction:

Imagine an an [sic] Ohmes Khajiit procreating with an Alfiq Khajiit. This is so wrong. I need to bleach my brain.[2]

Common Tropes & Themes

Khajiit and Race

Coding

The Khajiit are coded as, and influenced by, several real world cultures in Asia, most notably various South Asian and Southeast Asian societies, including India, the Philippines, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Thailand.[3][4][5] This was especially clear when The Elder Scrolls: Online featured Elsweyr. Their appearance in Skyrim in particular also drew comparisons amongst fans with Romani culture.

Racism

In-Universe

Few fantasy games are bold enough to discuss racial politics like Oblivion did; in one instance, you can even engage in a conversation with an Imperial racist who suggests that Khajiits should simply “get over” the fact that their land was stolen and given to the Imperials.

In universe, the Khajiit experience racial discrimination from many of the other races.
