John W. Campbell was a science fiction author and editor. He was also active as a fan, attending cons like the Newark Convention as both a pro and fan.

He was first published in Amazing Stories. He edited Astounding Science Fiction (later Analog) from 1937 to his death in 1971, and also founded and edited Unknown from 1939 to 1943. From 1949 to 1952 he helped L. Ron Hubbard develop Dianetics. His political views were usually described as "far-right", and he published several essays defending slavery and segregated schools.
