freddieismyqueen, also known as FMQ or FIMQ, was an extremely popular Larrie in the One Direction fandom. She had accounts on tumblr, youtube, and twitter and is well known throughout the fandom, especially for her Larrie crack videos. Many people cite her videos as the reason they started believing in Larrie in the first place.[1] Her name is based on Freddie Mercury from the band Queen.

In 2020, following controversy over one of her videos and doxxing threats, she withdrew from public fandom.

Name

New antis would sometimes get mad at her because they thought she was mocking Louis' child's name, Freddie Reign Tomlinson.[citation needed] However, her accounts existed years before the child was named. Freddieismyqueen even posted the day Louis's baby's name was announced, saying on tumblr, "Well this is awkward."[2] Some larries think the child -- possibly named after Freddie Mercury himself -- was named after her.[citation needed]

Influence

freddieismyqueen joined twitter in October 2009 and goes by @freddieismyqueen.[3] As of April 8, 2021, she had 104.8K followers.

freddieismyqueen is probably best known for her youtube videos. She joined youtube on August 27, 2013 and at one point had more than 500K subscribers.

Sometime before September 25, 2017 freddieismyqueen got verified on YouTube.[4] By 2018 other larries were reporting that her videos would get over 20,000 views less than an hour after being posted.[5] According to tumblr larrie 28nachos, she got 6,199 average new subs and 870,075 average views in 30 days in January 2018.

freddieismyqueen had a tumblr and a public instagram as well. Her first post on that tumblr was on December 24th, 2015, which was also Louis Tomlinson's birthday. Her last post was on April 25th, 2020.

Many fans credited her for making them believe, and sustaining their belief, in the Larry theory:

Anonymous asked: 90% of us wouldn't be here if it weren't for the wonderful Ellie, @freddieismyqueen. Her videos are flawless and perfect and I revisit them time and time again.

@freddiesmyqueen we must pay homage to the one who brough so many of us here! thank you for spreading love by sharing your incredible gift!

i was watching the video diaries at the start of quarantine and then a freddieismyqueen larry proof video came on so I watched it and then i watched like 20 more and then my fyp in tiktok started popping up with proof i hadn’t seen and now i’m a larry lmao

@quepenamena, 2020[7]

Welp, I just watched a bunch of @freddiesmyqueen's videos and now I'm utter Larry trash - how is this my life?

ofcoursecas, 2021[8]

[...] secondly, i know at least i was hoping to turn to rewatching all of FIMQ’s videos while i’m being quarantined due to the coronavirus. and i’m willing to bet that i’m not the only one. this is a scary time and for people like me who feel profoundly alone right now, the only way for me to calm my nerves and fears is by reverting to the content and community that helped me feel not so alone when i was in middle and high school. For me, that looks like watching FIMQ videos and reading my favorite larry fanfics (which i will also link below). [...]

coolnerdyandalone, 2020[9]

I somehow stumbled upon a chronicle of now deleted videos from YouTuber freddieismyqueen that led me to my future fixation: “Top 30 Iconic Larry Stylinson Moments”.... Looking back on this now, a lot of what’s presented in the video can be interpreted in so many different ways, and the viewer is kind of led to interpret it purely from the uploader’s point of view, but this was all I needed to see at the time.

Controversy

FIMQ's videos and their influence were the subject of much discussion, by Larry supporters and opponents both.

Monetization as Endorsement?

On several occasions, FIMQ claimed that revenue generated by her videos using copyrighted audio was being shared with her, implying that this was an exceptional situation. See her tweets, preserved in screencaps by other larries:

Friendly reminder that Harry actually payed fimq, sharing revenue with them which means that someone from his team of he in person watched the videos with his songs and decided to pay them...

[screencap] though I guess not as much as Harry seeing as Erskine, also after reviewing the SC and TG videos manually, apparently didn't mind sharing that ad $ even when they didn't have to! yes I will carry this fact in my larrie heart forever and be obnoxious about it

[screencap] Uhmm, the Medicine video was automatically not eligible for monetization like everything I upload but now, like with Two Ghosts and Sweet Creature, it has changed to the copyright owner sharing the ad revenue... It's not my content they don't have to share with me?? I'm laughing

@lanalouisana sharing @freddieismyqueen screencaps, 2020[11]

Many took this to signify implicit endorsement of her content and theories by Harry and/or Louis themselves:

HARRY'S SHARING REVENUE WITH FIMQ. NOW LOUIS' SHARING REVENUE AS WELL WITH FIMQ. LARRYS HOW ARE WE FUCKIN FEELING

@hugosrry, 2020[12]

I just don't understand how antis can exist when H AND L watched FIMQ's videos and said, "Yup, let's share the revenue with her...on these videos...about us...as a couple...set to our own music....don't you understand that they APPROVED THAT?!?!

@iicfhometolou, 2020[13]

This was a misunderstanding, or misrepresentation, of YouTube's monetization policy.

In fact, by 2015, YouTube's policy regarding the monetization of videos using copyrighted material allowed copyright owners to "share revenue" (i.e., collect part of, or all, AdSense revenue on a video posted by a user) instead of taking videos which impugned on their copyright down. Once a copyright claim is filed on a video through YouTube's "Content ID" system, the alternative is not, as FIMQ implied, between leaving the video up unmonetized and allowing the uploader to "share" its revenue with the copyright owner, but indeed between the video being removed from the internet outright for piracy, and revenue being earned by the copyright owner (overwhelmingly or solely). There is no implication that such content is endorsed or authorized.[14][15][16] According to YouTube:

More than 95% of the time when rightsholders claim content through Content ID, they choose to allow the content to remain on the platform and earn money generated by ads and subscriptions, rather than block the content. This has resulted in an entirely new revenue stream.

"Only the Brave" Video

In March 2020, FIMQ posted a video entitled "Only the Brave" which compiled supposed evidence of Louis being queer over a soundtrack of Louis' song of the same name. In the first few seconds of the video, several images relating to the Nazi persecution of queer men, including images of men wearing the downward pink triangle in a concentration camp, were intercut with a shot of Louis' upward triangle ankle tattoo.

A large number of fans expressed their disapproval of and disgust at the juxtaposition:

Anonymous asked: So Freddieismyqueen made another video... comparing Louis to holocaust victims. Based on the triangle tattoo on his ankle. I wish I was kidding.

ho-ly shit she sure fucking did.

Tumblr ask to shit-larries-say[18]

The last freddieismyqueen video was beyond disrespectful. Using the holocaust to compare or prove something is disgusting and ITS NOT OKAY. This is not even about ships, it’s okay to ship whoever you want, but this went too far.

As someone from Jewish heritage I feel disrespected

ZAYNPINKS, 2020[19]

don’t really have the words to explain how it made me feel when I first watched it, it was one of the most repulsive things I’ve ever seen come out of that fandom. It made my skin crawl. [...]

I don’t care whether you think Louis is gay or not, I don’t care whether you think he’s being forcibly closeted - even if both of those things are true, there is absolutely no conceivable excuse or rationale for comparing his life to that of people who were tortured and then put to death for their sexualities.

aaronexplains, 2020[20]

freddieismyqueen proving that larries thrive on fetishization and not genuine love for the lgbt community by fucking contrasting l*uis’ triangle tattoo w the holocaust when if ANYTHING it would’ve related to queer resistance as ACT UP branded it bye what the fuck

@soup_luvr, 2020[21]

not freddieismyqueen trying to link the deaths and struggles of millions of lgbtq+ within the holocaust & louis (A STRAIGHT MAN) and his triangle tattoo . anyways larries are fucking out of their mind goodnight

@s4r4hf0x, 2020[22]

On the Larry side, some supported FIMQ despite admitting the video was awkward or in poor taste, and some others didn't see an issue with the video at all, as this Twitter thread illustrates:

[@GalMarielena:] Everyone’s afraid to talk about it anyway...Freddieismyqueen reference of the Holocaust and Larry was not delivered correctly and misconstrued. She was not saying they’re equal by any means nothing in this fandom comes close to what happened during the holocaust(...)

The comparisons was only to depict the history behind it and how the triangle has meaning in the lgbtqi community even if the younger generations don’t know about it much today...this was a mistake that she apologized for not referencing the history properly [...]

[@333nikita:] I don't think the FIMQ video was done in poor taste as common history also teaches about the LGBTQIA+ community reclaiming that Holocaust symbol of annihilation!!! People should be more educated...My heart seriously broke for her and I tried to reach out but it was SO ugly!!!

[@thephoenixdnp:] this is what i thought while watching the video too. i can see why some people were upset though. i know that she's a good person and it was not her intention to say that

Twitter replies to @GalMarielena, 2020[23]

As of October 2021, no apology had been issued by FIMQ. A rumor concerning a deleted apology tweet was denied by close associate ificouldflymp3.[24]

Going Private

Due to this controversy, Instagram account "stopfreddieismyqueen" threatened to doxx FIMQ:

i got a couple more anons asking the same thing and the only thing i know is that some people has been harassing her , threatened to leak all her personal information because “she’s not a real larrie” . It’s honestly so terrifying, i’d be scared as hell . I even saw they threatened to show up in her home if she didn’t delete everything which is FUCKING INSANE ?? This is beyond the fandom , no one should ever feel unsafe in here. I really hope everything works out in her favor .

youfuckingloosah, 2020[25]

As a result, she put her twitter and youtube on private and stopped being active on Tumblr. Her bio stated: "still love h&l and larries. just scarred by the level of evil that exists in this fandom. channel privated for now. might be back some day xx".

The identity and motives of the person or people behind "stopfreddieismyqueen" were the subject of much speculation. Some believe it was Anti-Larries while others said it might be former Larries, or new Larries.

In typical Larry fashion, others still hypothesized that the threats had been orchestrated by Management:

I feel like Simon is behind this attack on freddieismyqueen. I mean she really exposed him in it. I sincerely hope she is ok and I want her to know that we’ve got her back.

omgaintihigh, 2020[26]

the only fucking place that i feel safe to talk about larry is around here, you guys have idea? freddieismyqueen is been threatned by syco, and everybody knows that. she’s posting videos since ever and that shit never really happened and when she’s DECIDE TALK ABOUT THE BIG BOSS ALL THIS HAPPENS.

we’re in the right side but is the mostly hard one. im afraid but im stronger than ever.

beachwoodcoffee, 2020[27]

At least one prominent anti-larrie fan denounced the doxxing threats and their consequences:

To the alleged doxxer:

Fuck you. Engaging in this way has made FIMQ a martyr. You know that this sort of behavior only has an enabling effect on the remaining conspiracy theorists. You behaved recklessly, whoever you are. You’ve painted all of us with the same brush of underhanded tactics, and that pisses me off. Come off anon and explain yourself.

shit-larries-say, 2020[28]

FIMQ attempted a come-back in mid-July of 2020, reviving criticism, and subsequently disappeared from public fandom again. Her videos have been re-uploaded and reposted in various places.
