Fan the Vote is a 2004 fannish charity fundraiser for John Kerry's U.S. presidential campaign and MoveOn.org. The name is a play on Rock the Vote.[1]

From the livejournal profile page:

This fundraiser is designed to let you participate in as many ways as possible. The idea here is, the more the merrier, and the more money the better. There are lots of different ways to contribute, and to sponsor. Please bear in mind, however, that all individual contributions to the Kerry campaign must be made before the Democratic Convention is held in late July.[1]

Fanworks created for the fundraiser were posted to a separate comm, voteworks.

On July 5, idlerat reported that US$6,500 had been raised for Kerry's campaign through fan_the_vote.[2] International fans, who could not legally donate money to a U.S. political campaign, donated to the Red Cross, Amnesty International, and other charities.[3]

Fan the vote was used as an example or counterexample in a few 2005 meta discussions about fandom and profit: see Fandom and Money (essay) and Untitled post on Cousin Jean's proposal.

In 2005, the LiveJournal community had 198 members and 123 watchers.[4] As of 2012 it had 225 posts; 2,129 comments; and 121 members.[1] One interest was listed: defeating bush.
