Category talk:Assassin's Creed Fanworks

I've seen a few of these "Fanwork" subcategories pop up recently, and in addition to not following the precedent of other [Fandom] [Fanwork type] categories, I do not think they are a good idea because fans often do not agree on what a fanwork is. Some fans use the word "fanwork" to mean "Fanfiction" only, possibly because AO3 describes itself as a "fanwork" archive, but most of the content is fanfiction. To my thinking "fanworks" includes but is not limited to: fanfiction, fanart, fan films, fanvids, amvs, filks, podfics, podcasts, RP chat transcripts, fan translations, gifs, zines, posters, fliers, book-binding, painted fingernails, calendars, knitted sweaters, websites, plays, costumes, meta, etc. But I suspect not everyone would agree with me on what should be included, so it's a lot clearer to make categories for specific types of objects/works/crafts/activities.--aethel (talk) 22:57, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

I agree, also this feels like there should more discussion about this new type of category before we roll it out to multiple fandom sub-categories -- Kingstoken (talk) 01:14, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
As of today, there are three [X Fandom] Fanworks categories. The Homestuck category might be needed because so many of the fanworks look like a homestuck-specific type of multimedia fanfic? But someone else should take a look. Assassin's Creed already has two other fanwork subcategories (art and doujinshi), so I think this category should be deleted. Looks like there might be enough pages for a Zines and/or Fanfiction subcategory.--aethel (talk) 04:55, 25 March 2023 (UTC)
On how to address this category, we have enough pages here for a Category:Assassin's Creed Fanfiction category, and the other pages can return to the parent Category:Assassin's Creed. I don't think we're at capacity for Zines yet. I can only see one in this category, unless there are more Zines in the main category. --Auntags (talk) 09:26, 9 April 2023 (UTC)
Agreed with all of these, with the caveat that Category: Star Trek Fanworks was created to cover Star Trek-related fanwork pages that don't fit in any of the other categories - buttons, fan-published non-fiction books, various crafts, etc. - I'm still sorting everything in the Category:Star Trek category and I anticipate finding more than the two items there right now. I'm happy for guidance otherwise. Rossi (talk) 19:20, 27 August 2023 (UTC)
