The Care Bears are a set of greeting card characters, toy line, animated series and movies which originated in the 1980s. Fanworks frequently include custom characters.

Care Bears characters are animals, mostly bears, that have different magical powers related to the symbols on their tummies. They use their wholesome, heartwarming powers to teach children the importance of cooperation, being nice to your siblings, and other 'afterschool special' concepts.

All of this innocence and wholesomeness makes the Care Bears an irresistible target for childhood-destroying, trauma-inducing parodies and fanworks. The most notorious example is probably Slave Bear of Care-A-Lot, written for Yuletide 2005.

Other fanworks are more canon-compliant.

Shipping

Christy/Dark Heart from the second movie is somewhat popular, many fans having shipped it in their childhoods.
