Harriett/Caelum is a Rigel Black Chronicles pairing involving Harriett Potter (Rigel Black Chronicles) and Caelum Lestrange (Rigel Black Chronicles), both original characters. The pairing name is often abbreviated to Caerry, which aside from being a portmanteau, has also been explained as:

it's caerry because they have to carry so much baggage -

A quick way to refer to this pairing is the carrot emoji 🥕 .

History

While interest in this pairing emerged somewhere during the internship subplot, it only grew in popularity after Tsume_Yuki and Tamari wrote their longform works.

Popularity exploded after FF14, especially as it coincided with the end of Rigel Black Exchange 2, where there were many fics published for this pairing, mainly by Tamari and Tsume_Yuki. A scene in FF14 seemed to doom the fic, but inspired extensive meta, such as Salt the Fields and Raze the Heart: A Caelum Meta re That Scene by rachel614. This surge of pairing fic is referred to as the Caerry Renaissance

The Appeal

Fics often follow the progression of rivals to lovers, a common trope. Fans of this pairing also feel that Caelum is the only one who respects and understands Harry's passion for potions. Many enjoy the banter they have together, and like how l=playful Harry is.

Common Tropes

  • Lucky Fish. Harry and Caelum eat together at a Chinese restaurant, and Harry lies, telling Caelum that fish are unlucky in China (when they actually are lucky). As this moment was when their relationship changed from mainly antagonistic to friendly, it is a common motif in Harry/Caelum works.
  • Pigeons. The references to pigeons are inspired by harrysboots4ever's fic caelum lestrange and the homeless girl, where Caelum has a vendetta towards pigeons. Harriett's animagus is a raven, but Caelum amusingly refers to her as a pigeon all the same.
  • Rude epistiolary letters
  • That Scene From FF14. Fans like to try to explain it, or change it.
  • Harry and Caelum brew together. Caused by the scene in AA5 where they brew together at both the Lestrange Manor as well as practice wandless magic at Potter Place.
  • Marriage Law

The fics that started Caerry Renaissance

These two longform fics provoked people into requesting for the RBE2 exchange.

RBE 2 fics

  • Had a Time of It by Tsume_Yuki : Time Travel Romance. The longest fic in the exchange, this fic converted many.
  • Magically Allocated Terrific(Terrible) Espousals by DistractedDaydreamer "The marriage law passes, and it turns out the algorithm is a Caelum/Harry shipper. None of the living beings think this is a good idea, but maybe the algorithm is onto something…"
  • Something Borrowed, Something True by Tamari "The Marriage Law algorithm disrupts Riddle's plans, pairing Harriet Potter with the most obstinate Dark Heir: Caelum Lestrange. But Caelum and Harry hatch a plan to make the best of a sticky situation. Knowing Harry's luck, there might be a few complications..."
  • The Greatest Potions Master in History by Tsume_Yuki: Marriage law fic, outsider perspective "He certainly hasn’t missed that, while Aunt Bella is spitting fire over it, Caelum doesn’t look too upset. And Draco... Draco is an empath. So, the question is, why the hell is his asshole cousin downright euphoric to have been lumped with Harriet Potter?"
  • Namesake by Tsume_Yuki : "But that’s the final thing Caelum needs to put it together and he can’t subdue the sharp bark of disbelieving laughter before it’s already escaped. Well fuck. He can only think of one person who’d happily name their children after potioneers. Especially those particular potioneers."
  • M A T C H S T I C K by Tsume_Yuki: "Caelum struggles to describe Harriet Potter."
