Description: digital painting based on 《下坠》, a Wang Yibo/Xiao Zhan RPF fanfic that was the subject of controversy in Chinese fandom. The fanart was displayed in several online articles that recounted the events that led to AO3 getting banned in mainland China. Examples: jaynestars.com, 38jiejie.com


The girl in the picture is meant to be Xiao Zhan. In the story Xiao Zhan is a prostitute with gender dysphoria. The figure in the background is probably Wang Yibo.
Although people liked it, some Xiao Zhan fans were apparently offended and disgusted by the portrayal of Xiao Zhan as feminine. According to various sources, this fanart was reported and removed from weibo (and lofter?) and may have been part of what motivated fans to report AO3 to the Chinese government.
