Reactions and Reviews

inside art from issue #2. The drawing, by Suzan Lovett for "Weight Watchers," shows Blake and Avon in an embrace. The close-up focus on the male upper bodies with faces partially obscured departs from the artist's typical style of full body drawings or head portraits. By limiting the viewer's gaze to only a small piece of canvas, the artist conveys a sense of intimacy tinged with claustrophobia, hinting at the dysfunctional nature of the Blake/Avon relationship. Suzan later sold this as an art print at the Escapade 1993 art show.
Hummmmm....so you're asking about good Blake in fan fiction. I think (even if it was a bit silly) that Blake was well drawn in the story Weight Watchers. [1]

My favourite story in this 'zine. A nice just-for-fun PWP (I have a weakness for A/B PWPs - Vila shouldn't get *all* the fun & games stories). No redeeming social value, no plot-as-an-excuse, no ritual Avon-Being-Agonised-Afterwards, just sheer sexual greed. I *like* that in a story. Avon manages to catch Blake trying to sneak a piece of illicit chocolate cake at the dead of night, & manages to distract him from breaking his diet by a thorough & draining exercise routine.[2]

Pleasant fluff that is fair yet kind about Blake's appearance. They share some hilariously awful banter before the sex begins ("Are you sure there are no calories in your kisses? ... Something that tastes as sweet as your mouth must be on Cally's forbidden list"), but it's cute and fun.[3]
