On Fanlore: My contributions / email me

I'm NinthFeather! I'm an anime, animation, and sci-fi/fantasy fan in my thirties who's into art, design, and writing.

Fannish History

My first anime was The Adventures of Mermaid Princess Marina, which I watched dubbed and without a single clue that it was an anime. When I was older, a friend tried to introduce me to manga, but I was a bit conservative for some of the titles they tried at first. Eventually, they gave me a volume of Tokyo Mew Mew and I was hooked. Later, another friend got me into Sailor Moon, and by college, I was the one accidentally addicting my friends to Fullmetal Alchemist.

I got a Fanfiction.Net account in 2009 and began writing screwball crossovers not long after. My deviantArt account is a bit older, but is also basically abandoned now. For various reasons, I've come to prefer pixiv. I was super-late to Tumblr, but I enjoy the site now that I have it.

I have really never mastered the art of being in a single fandom at a time. Even when I'm not writing crossovers, I'm usually at least a bit obsessed with two or more series simultaneously. It's why I'm more likely to call myself an anime fan or a mecha fan than a member of a specific fandom, though I am very dedicated to certain fandoms as well.

Although I enjoy a good popular anime like anyone else, I discovered over time that my favorite place for fannish participation was smaller fandoms, where less people generally translated to a smaller risk of sprawling fandom drama. Thus, even when I get into something really popular, I'm less likely to make art or fic for it than I am for my random niche-interest show of the week.

I usually attend the local convention, and make cosplay when I can, though my general abilities/amount of free time mean that my costumes are usually less elaborate. My favorite parts of cons are the panels and getting to see everyone's cosplay, though I also like the Artist's Alley.

Things I, personally, am known for in fandom: writing that FMA/M*A*S*H crossover, kind-of translating the first announcement of the Kagerou Project MX4D movie, writing that one fanfic about Allelujah Haptism from Gundam 00, writing that one long Saguru-centric DCMK fic, and a few tumblr headcanon posts.

On Fanlore

I would like to see more articles on anime and anime fandom on Fanlore. There's excellent coverage of media fandom on this wiki, but not nearly enough information regarding anime fandom. All things considered, I'm a fairly young fan, but I still see a lot of younger anime fans running around without a sense of the history of the fandom, and I'd like Fanlore to become a helpful resource for them, too.

As of the present, most of my contributions on Fanlore have involved creating pages for things and at least populating them somewhat, in hopes that a later contributor can fill the page out. I've also added example fanworks to a fair number of pages.
