Fandom

The fanbase was incredibly divided upon the release of Angel of Darkness. Several fans of the Core Design games were not happy with Crystal Dynamics' continuity reboot with Legend and the subsequent drastic changes to Lara's personality and backstory. In addition, some feel this way about the second continuity reboot.

Tomb Raider (2013)

Before Tomb Raider's release there was controversy over a scene which was reported to be an attempted rape on Lara. Fans and critics voiced their displeasure towards this type of violence towards women, and the iconic character.[1] Though this has abated somewhat once the game was out, as the scene plays out somewhat differently. While the man was obviously planning on, or at least strongly considering, raping Lara, as soon as she fights back — which she does without player input — he immediately tries to kill her. Failing the quicktime event results in Lara being strangled to death.

In the Definitive Edition of the game Lara was given a new face model, upsetting some fans how felt that the old version was more natural. Others prefer the new face, feeling that it more closely resembles the game's artwork, as well as resembling Lara's two previous incarnations.
