I have two dates for the possible 20th anniversary 1999 and 2009. --Morgandawn 08:07, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

I'd sitck with 2009 as that's how the math looks. Mrs. Potato Head 13:15, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

My bad. I came up with the 1989 'start' date after reading a post from someone saying 2009 was the 20th. But then I read another that said 1999 was the 20th - making the first convention 1979. In short....we need better data!--Morgandawn 16:42, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

In reply to Morgandawn, Nattercon and A Weekend in the Country were unequivocally two different things, organised by different groups of people, and with a distinct chronological break between them. And there was absolutely no convention as early as 1979; somebody's calculations are faulty there. Vermeil 06:32, 3 June 2010 (UTC)Vermeil

OK, since you have more knowledge, can you help fill in the gaps? Ex: when and where did the UK Weekend in the Country take place? When and where did Nattercon take place? Who were the organizers/groups. If you don't have the details don't worry - what I'll do is move your comment to the front page to flesh out the facts. We may get more details that way. I'll also move the Weekend info to its own page - I need to make a disamb page as there are two Weekend in the Country events - one onr in the UK and one in the US. --Morgandawn 06:57, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

More Date Change

This page said it began in 1989 which fits the 20th anniversary in 2009. But The Professionals Timeline says this con began in 1990. Also, October 26, 1989 was a Thursday and October 26, 1990 was a Friday, which makes the 1990 date fit better. So, there is still confusion. I went ahead and changed the date on this page to 1990, but those in the know will have more info. --Mrs. Potato Head 13:29, 17 March 2012 (UTC)

Entry Errors Regarding Years Con Was Held?

This entry says Nattercon was held annually in May from 1990 - Present (top right). However, the content only covers seven specific years: 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1998, 1999, 2009. While most of these years have some combination of citations, dates, and/or con reports, 1992 has no information and has been left blank.
This leaves me with a few different questions:

  1. Should we edit the con info (top right) so that it says 1990 - 2009 instead of 1990 - present?
  2. Did this con actually occur annually from 1990 - 2009 OR did it only meet in 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1998, 1999, and 2009?
  3. Should the blank section for 1992 be deleted? Does anyone have anything to indicate a 1992 con existed?

It looks like people who were involved in the con were working on this page at some point, so I don't want to make edits without checking in. --Paintedmaypole (talk) 20:12, 29 May 2024 (UTC)

Apologies, I just found information in byslantedlight's LJ post which resolves a couple of my questions here. Here's what I'm going to do:
  1. Tweak the language in the entry a little to clarify that the con was held 1990 - 2009 and met 20 times (using the LJ post as a citation).
  2. Reformat the list of years slightly to make it clear these 6 dates aren't the only times the con met.
  3. Delete the blank section on 1992, since it's blank and inconsistent with the way the overall entry has been organized.
I hope all of that is okay! I think it both resolves my questions, adds clarity, and preserves the existing information. The only change I'm a little leery of is saying the last con meeting was 2009. I can't find any information online to indicate it kept occuring after 2009, but the original Fanlore entry left the actual end date ambivalent. --Paintedmaypole (talk) 20:29, 29 May 2024 (UTC)

Convention Dates

The way I handle them

1. Documentation sources from the time is best. If there is a piece of paper that says the date we use it 2. Memories and posts - not as reliable (ex: byslantedlight did not attend Nattercon, but has offered up word of mouth research from whitehall, the con organizer). If we're using a quote and it seems off/wrong we do not edit the quote, we just drop a note (ex: 1992 may not have had an event that year, more info welcomed) but leave the quote intact. 3. If there is no cited source on a date, we leave that there on Fanlore and add: It is not clear if the convention took place that year. Additional info welcomed.

We will have gaps in documentation - it is better to leave the info up with a request for more info unless it is an obvious typo.

Back to 1992 Nattercon: unless there is a statement from an attendee saying: "1992 did not happen" it should remain.MeeDee (talk) 21:19, 29 May 2024 (UTC)

Awesome! As you suggested, I put 1992 back with a statement about missing info. --Paintedmaypole (talk) 20:34, 30 May 2024 (UTC)
