How I built the character list, and question about Korean names

For the character list I used a tag-search to find all canonical tags containing "chan" on AO3, and included every character w/ at least a few dozen hits and "Chan" as actually part of their name (I excluded a bunch of characters that are commonly referred to with the honorific, e.g. Mieruko-chan or Ao-chan from JSHK). Yep, I went through 43 pages of tags... because I'm the kind of weirdo who finds this fun, I guess.

Anyways! I wanted to register on here that I'm NOT an expert on Korean names, and I did a little bit of research, but I'm still not confident on whether too include people on here who have "Chan" as part of their personal names (e.g. Overwatch plays "Baek Chan-Hyung | Fissure" and "Lee "Scout" Yee-chan"). Like, IRL I know people who treat their names as one indivisible unit, but the spelling of these names in various sources suggests that some people perhaps treat it as two names? (A possibly comparable example from the Anglosphere -- you wouldn't want to include someone named "Marianne" on a list of people named "Anne", but perhaps you would include "Sheila Rae" on a list of people named "Rae"?). Anyways, I made my best guess, and decided it would be easier to remove these names later than go back and add them later, so for now they're on the list. If people have different opinions, please chime in here! -- Quaelegit (talk) 03:13, 27 October 2022 (UTC)
