The term suethor is a portmanteau of author and Mary Sue, and refers to a writer, usually of fanfic, who writes Mary Sues. The term is most often used in a derogatory manner in reference to someone's fan-writing and typically with the assumption that the Mary-Sue being written is a self-insert character.

The term was reasonably common in some fannish spaces on Livejournal, but references to suethor's are found on many platforms and posts, including Quotev, Wordpress blogs, and older fandom forum spaces. Many of the entries on sites set up entirely to mock what some fans considered badfic[1] made reference to the authors being suethors, and meta discussing Mary-Sues and suethors[2] and guides for anti-suethors were written[3].

There was a community on Livejournal, Suethors Anonymous, where authors who were on the receiving end of being mocked and derided by blogs such as Godawful Fan Fiction, Deleterius, or Pottersues discussed their fanworks and writing[4].

While authors of works considered to contain Mary Sues can still experience harassment or mockery in some spaces online, by 2024 there seems to be less of a prevalence of groups doing so in the same open way that was more common on Livejournal and the term appears to have become much less used.
