Snaibsel is the popular femslash pairing of Artemis Crock and Zatanna Zatara in Young Justice fandom. The name snaibsel is a play on the way that Zatanna says her spells. In order to a cast a spell, Zatanna says words backwards. For instance to cast the spell "bind" she would said "dnib". Snaibsel is lesbians backwards.

Snaibsel is also a frequent Shipmate of birdflash.

History

Snaibsel first rose to prominence in the fandom after season 1 episode 18 "Secrets" aired on November 4, 2011. The episode depicted Artemis and Zatanna breaking off from a Halloween party that they were attending with the Team to fight bad guys on their own. They bond and are depicted as being close in later episodes in the season.

While Artemis and Zatanna did not interact in season two, many snaibsel fans continued to explore the dynamic. Then on January 11, 2019 the season 3 episode "Private Security" aired. This portrayed a tearful meeting between Zatanna and her father, Zatara, and shows Artemis comforting her. It also states that this is an annual event and that Artemis has helped Zatanna through it every single time.

Common Tropes in Fanworks

Snaibsel fics often focus on Artemis helping Zatanna deal with the trauma she experienced after her father became Dr. Fate (which was made canon in the season 3 episode Private Security) or Zatanna helping Artemis deal with her grief over Wally's death. Other common tropes include the two getting together in season one, Villain! AUs, meet cutes, soulmate aus, Halloween, and creative takes on the episode Secrets.
