Poor John is so, so confused in this fic and I love it. Rodney disappears suddenly, and no one can find it. Most of the story is set squarely in John’s head, and a beautiful, panicked, confused place it is. And I love that it doesn’t resolve easily or cleanly or quickly, but still leaves you satisfied and pleased. [1]
McKay is tortured by captors while Shepherd waits impotently in the cell. And then Rodney gets the team out and through the gate, kissing John before he shoves him though and remaining behind.... This story has it all: capture, torture, heroics, Angsty!John and lots of trademark Speranza humour. [2]
Rodney gets to be brave. John is forced to wait behind while someone else goes to rescue Rodney. John goes a little batty. I'm a sucker for emotional angst, and this fic definitely delivers. John's characterization is spot on, his restless, guilty frustration is exactly the way I would picture him reacting to a situation like this. And added to that frustration is his endless worry and wonder over what may have been the last time he ever sees Rodney. The banter and the dialogue are so perfect, even through all the angst I was smiling because of it.[3]
